Two men have been arrested at Auckland Airport in New Zealand’s largest-ever cocaine bust.Police and Customs found 35 bricks of high-grade cocaine worth an estimated street value of NZD$14 million.Search warrants are underway in Christchurch following the record bust at addresses in Worcester St, Linwood.

Customs had their suspicions when a 400kg sculpture of a diamante-encrusted horse had been freighted into the country from Mexico.A third person has been arrested today after a record amount of cocaine for New Zealand was seized from inside a horse sculpture.Last night two men were arrested at Auckland International Airport and a search warrant was being carried out this morning at a house in Te Atatu.

The men, a 44 year-old Mexican national and a 56 year-old US national have been charged and will appear in the Manukau District Court this morning.The Mexican national has appeared and was remanded on bail to reappear on Monday.He entered no plea and was granted name suppression.The defendant indicated language was an issue and is seeking an interpreter for his next appearance.A third person was arrested in Christchurch this afternoon and will appear in Christchurch District Court on Monday.

They have been charged with importing a class A drug and possession for supply of a class A drug.Importing cocaine carries a punishment of life sentence.”This is obviously a large amount of cocaine, and in the past we’ve only found very small amounts of this drug,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Parmenter, Officer in Charge, Organised Crime Auckland.
